Job Search: Now's the Time to 'Spring Ahead'

job search

Spring is in there air. The snow has melted, the weather is looking up, and as of last Sunday, we have an extra hour of daylight.

Meriam-Webster defines this time of year as a time of growth and renewal, a time when plants revive and a time of resiliance -- what better time to kick-off or re-ignite your job search?

The team here at John Leonard believes that change of season is the perfect time to come out of job-search-hibernation and land your next position.

Here's Five Springtime Tricks to Landing Your Next Job Now:

1. Early Bird Gets the Worm

job searchA prime time to start the daily job search is before the start of the work day.

We suggest waking up early and getting all of your correspondences and applications over to the recruiter or hiring manager that you are working with first thing in the morning.

This way he/she will get your message first thing in the morning before the chaos of the day has begun.

2. Get Some Fresh Air

job searchThe current state of technology allows you to surf the web from virtually anywhere.

Take advantage of this and get a change of scenery for your job search. Go to a cafe, diner... or even a park bench to find your next job.

The change of scenery will rejuvinate your search.

3. Grab a Cup of Coffee and Network

Now is the time of year when everyone is looking for an excuse to step away from their desk and get face time with people other than their colleagues.

Use this time to reach out to your industry contacts and do some face-to-face networking. Suggest something simple, inexpensive and not too time consuming... such as a cup of coffee.

Your contacts will be happy to step outside and will be pleasantly reminded that you are still looking for your next opportunity.

4. Stay Positive

Employers look for candidates who exude positive energy.

Even though the job search can be time consuming and a trying process, remember to keep a positive, can-do attitude. Every time you go for an interview, you are there for a reason: because the hiring manager saw something in your credentials that they liked.

Concentrate on the positive elements of your career and boast about your best skills and achievements. Also, remember to smile!

5. Keep Busy and Be Proactive

job searchNow-a-days, employers are always looking to see what potential candidates have done while they are unemployed. If you are not currently working, keep busy!

The best way to kill two birds with one stone is to do Temporary work. This will keep you busy and help your job search as well.

You never know what a Temporary job will lead to. At the very least, you will end up with some new contacts to network with or, even better, you may end up with your next full-time Direct Hire job.
