Accounting Manager

Salary: $90K - $100K

5+ years in a senior accounting role in a professional services environment required; law firm experience is strongly preferred

An intellectual property law firm based in Boston has an immediate opening for an Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, extremely organized, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position works closely with the Firm’s Billing Manager and supervises an Accounting Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Manager will process and reconcile the bi-weekly staff and attorney payroll using ADP Workforce Now
  • Process and reconcile the semi-monthly partner draw payroll, as well as additional periodic partner payments
  • Update and maintain all payroll records to ensure accurate calculations of employee withholding and other elections
  • Process off-cycle and payroll vendor payments as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with payroll, tax, legal and finance policies, and best practices
  • Initiate and reconcile 401(k) plan transactions
  • Oversee all accounting department operations; ensure all transactions are posted timely
  • Maintain accounting operations and procedures documents
  • Supervise the Accounting Specialist in the processing of all accounts payable, including foreign payments to global partners
  • Oversee the processing and posting of client and vendor payments to Aderant Expert
  • Manage all bank and treasury activity and ensure that monthly account reconciliations are completed
  • Monitor outside disbursement accounts and replenish as necessary
  • Maintain and update the chart of accounts in Aderant Expert
  • Provide back-up coverage to the Accounting and Billing functions as needed
  • Coordinate the annual review with external accountants and provide all relevant information
  • Assist with the preparation of external financial statements, partner K-1s, and state filings.
  • Complete all Firm-related tax and other filings (i.e. personal property taxes, abandoned property, etc.)
  • Compile and distribute monthly management reports to Partners
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the annual operating budget
  • Assist with other financial analyses and creation of reports as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree; accounting, finance, and business administration degrees a plus
  • Experience processing payroll using a third-party vendor required; ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus
  • 5+ years in a senior accounting role in a professional services environment; law firm experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks and work well under tight deadlines
  • Team-oriented, but also works well independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise discretion and to preserve and protect confidential information
  • Excellent Excel skills; experience using Aderant Expert or other law firm financial software strongly preferred
