A Boston nonprofit is seeking a Recovery Coach to work onsite and be responsible for providing peer support services to tenants with alcohol and/or other substance use disorders; gambling; and/or other addictive behaviors with co-occurring mental illnesses and/or complex medical issues. Apply if you’re a Certified Addictions Recovery Coach, or actively working towards a CARC.

Responsibilities

  • Recovery Coach will demonstrate competency in their recovery from addiction and utilize their own lived experience and their use of successful coping skills to support tenants in their own recovery journeys
  • Contribute to the nonprofit’s mission by partnering with tenants to work towards personal goals in order to achieve greater independence and improved quality of life
  • Assist, encourage and empower tenants to take an active role in their recovery – at whatever stage they are in; by participating in clinical meetings, self-help groups; creating wellness/recovery/relapse prevention plans, and connecting with agencies and organizations in support of the participant’s individual path towards improved wellness
  • Use Harm Reduction, Strengths-Based, and Client-Centered care as the foundation of both support and treatment
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Stages of Change, Trauma-Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing
  • Exhibit a willingness and ability to serve as a mentor to others who are in the process of recovery by sharing their own recovery experience, if applicable

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience working in the Addictions/Mental health/Homeless services fields 
  • Certified Addictions Recovery Coach, or actively working towards a CARC
  • Understanding of less traditional Recovery and Harm Reduction Models, including (but not limited to), SMART Recovery, Moderation Management; S.O.S; Life Ring, DRA, etc.
  • Understanding of Medication Assisted Treatment options and various treatment models
  • Knowledge of local addictions/recovery resources and networks
  • Completed 5-day Recovery Coach Academy
  • Strong written communication and oral skills
  • Computer Proficiency
