Temporary Grant Specialist

Responsibilities
- Grant Specialist will maintain financial management and oversee compliance for an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts; in accordance with government regulations and funder requirements
- Set up and review new grant awards, grant amendments and budget revisions in the GP2018 accounting system
- Document internal grant deadlines and implement a tracking system that ensures all deadlines are met
- Run and review monthly grant reports, analyze budget-to-actual variances, advise bureaus/programs of inconsistent spending trends and budget overages/shortfalls
- Assist Bureau Administrators (BAs) and Program Directors (PDs) with the preparation of grant and program budgets, budget amendments, and support the annual budget process
- Ensure that grant budgets are current, accurate, and properly maintained in the accounting system
- Review and approve grant-related financial transactions prior to entry into GP2018 accounting system
- Work with grant team colleagues to develop a comprehensive grant filing system
- Maintain complete and accurate grant files, ensure project records are kept in good order and readily available for review and audit
- Review new awards and all sponsored terms and conditions; verify compliance conditions are met
- Monitor expenditure activity for compliance and communicate with BAs & PDs as needed
- Work with Accounting, Revenue, and external partners to ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables
- Train program staff on proper coding of expenditures and other items related to grant accounting and compliance
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business, economics, or a technical discipline
- 1-2 years of grant accounting experience OR at least 4 years of grant accounting related experience in lieu of degree
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with either Great Plains 2018 or ReQlogic requisitioning software a plus
- Understanding and knowledge of federal and state grant principles and procedures required, specifically 2 CFR Part 200 - UNIFORM ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS, COST PRINCIPLES, AND AUDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR FEDERAL AWARDS
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
